How to Resize an Image

Sometimes, an image is simply too large in its physical dimensions to be useful. If you have a 4000x3000 pixel photo from your smartphone, it will break the layout of an email and take too long to load on a webpage.

Our image resizer allows you to scale down the width and height of your photos instantly.

Why Resizing is Better Than Just Compressing

If you need to drastically reduce the file size of an image, just lowering the compression quality will result in a terrible, pixelated mess. The best way to reduce file size without making the image look "blocky" is to reduce its physical dimensions first.

A 1920x1080 image saved at 90% quality will look much better—and often be a smaller file size—than a 4000x3000 image saved at 10% quality.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Upload: Drop your image into the tool above.
  2. Enter Dimensions: Type your desired width or height in the settings panel. If you only enter one, the tool will usually maintain the aspect ratio so your image doesn't look squished.
  3. Apply and Download: The tool will recalculate the pixels and provide you with a newly sized image to download.
